Choice Fabric For Chairs

By Stephanie Prtichard

Fabric for chairs can be any sort of fabric that is snug and sturdy and should add liveliness, or a certain mellowness to a room without clashing or grabbing too much attention to itself. The homeowner should also take into account the decor of the rest of the room. They should think about the way in which the chair fabric's colour, pattern or lack of pattern as well as it's texture will complement the rest of the room. For example, if the wallpaper has a floral or has a bold pattern, the fabric of the chair could be a solid color. But this does not need to be an unbreakable rule.

Fabric for chairs can be completely natural. They can be wool, silk, cotton or linen, or mixes of these fabrics. Natural fibers may also be mixed with synthesised fibers, like silk and rayon or wool and nylon. The material can be vinyl, which can seem like leather. Fibers such as bamboo and seagrass can also be employed.

All fabric must be treated to be soil and stain resistant, which should prolong the life and the looks of the chair. If the chair is in a bright, sunlit room, fabric may also be treated to safeguard against ultraviolet light, which can fade colors and cause material to fray.

A good mixture of fabrics in a room can give it an elegance without it being stuffy. If there are two chairs in the room they could be finished in the same fabric. This could be a pale pink silk-rayon, regardless if it is a comfortable armchair and the other is an armless sidechair.

A settee or loveseat can be upholstered in a fabric that complements them in colour and in fabric. In this case, perhaps a velveteen in predominantly red paisley pattern would work with the sofa. Of course, the rest of the room, particularly the floors and ceiling, should work to pull everything together!
