Child Safety In Cars Is An Issue For Many Parents

By Byron Jonas

On roadways throughout the world there are far too many children getting seriously injured in accidents. Every year there are hundreds of thousands of them injured when collisions occur. Many of these children end up dying from injuries that in many cases could have been avoided. There are certain things that a parent can do to promote child safety in cars to address one of the leading causes of death for youngsters aged one to fourteen in westernized countries.

One must always remember that car seating was made for the adult body. Children do not fit well in these seats even when they wear a seat belt. Other adjustments must be made and having a minor using a booster seat is one of the best.

Using a simple mechanism that has been around for years now is one of the best measures to take to protecting a small child. These devices can be placed in the car for a child to sit in securely. A problem arises when they are not used as they should be and they do not offer the protection they were designed to give. The main reason appears to be that adults do not take the time to familiarize themselves with how they work.

The size of the minor is the most important predictor of when to utilize this type of seating. Although many people promote the age as the primary factor, and it is a big factor, the size of the child must be of concern. Not all children grow at the same rate and, if the child is under four foot nine, they should be made to use this safety device.

Air bags can be a issue if the person is not of the right size. The air bags come out with a terrific force that impacts the body. If the body size is not big enough, this force can cause serious injuries.

Another measure that should be practiced is the adults using safety harnesses themselves. Some studies have shown that almost 40 percent of children hurt when not wearing a harness was traveling with an adult who also was not wearing a harness. Children will often practice what they see the adults doing and will mimic the adults in many cases. One should always wear their seat belts.

Using car booster seats to address safety in cars is a good thing. However, one must know how to use them well to achieve the results they want. They also must support the children by engaging in taking measure to protect themselves, too.
