What Keyboard Brand Duplicates a Robust Piano Sound?

By Irene J. Costa

The Yamaha keyboard piano is one keyboards that comes with a combined cost savings, true piano sound and added features that are hard to beat. Other keyboard brands that are similar to the Yamaha are both the Korg and Casio. There are differences and this article is going to address them.

Let's start with the Casio keyboard. Casios are rarely found in the higher end music stores. Stores like Walmart, Best Buy and others carry Casios.. Casio is frequently labeled as a newbie keyboard. The recommendation is for the beginner student to upgrade to a better quality brand inside a year of making a purchase.

From reading this article I am sure you can now understand why Casio has limited acceptance in the professional industry. Put a Casio against a Yamaha keyboard and the difference in sound quality is clear. The Yamaha has a rather more true rich piano sound over the Casio. The less costly Casio will come across with a less than adequate sound.

When comparing the more expensive Korg to the Casio, the two do not compare. The Korg wins over the Casio in all categories. Now if we put the Yamaha up against the Korg, the tables change. Oftentimes the less expensive Yamaha is preferred over the higher priced Korg in similar models.

Why does the Yamaha match or sometimes beat a Korg? Its personal preference. The ear will tell a piano player what sounds more true to them. Sometimes the Korg could be too much and the Yamaha more in line with what the pianist is searching for or it might be the other way around.

What convinces professional musicians is Yamaha's ability to keep a hold on the market. It is not uncommon to see a Yamaha keyboard on stage beside a Korg or Roland. Depending on the kind of music played a Yamaha may be more acceptable than a Korg or Roland and this can also be said for the Roland and Korg keyboards.
