Have you ever thought about building a chicken coop? As the economy situation in our country stays at a low rate of recovery, plenty of people are looking out for ways to save on groceries and other things to tighten up their budgets. One of the methods to save is to raise your own chickens and provide some good old fashion fresh eggs and may be a tasty chicken. Building a chicken coop can be convenient.
Let's look at some ideas. All you actually need to have for a chicken cage is some lumber wire and nails. Chickens do not need to have much space and they stay in one place hunting and pecking at the ground for food all day without desiring to stroll off if they have some kind of blockage. Your chicken wire fence does not need to be electrified or have spiny wire it just needs to be a normal wire fence and the chickens will not try a great escape of any kind.
The very first thing when building a chicken coop has an easy plan to follow and on that plan there should be an issue of space. Chickens have no need for a large amount of space it is correct but how many chickens are you planning to have in your chicken ranch? The issue of how much space you require for your coop is in the quantity of chickens being raised. A 5'x5 ' coop can simply house 10 chickens and produce your weekly egg wants for your folks. But if you've got the space for more and wish to raise some fryers you need to use the formula of 1 chicken for every square foot and your chickens will be very ecstatic in that space (I suspect this to be true).
The next thing to consider is the fence posts if you're going with an open air style coop this type of coop in its most elementary form simply needs 4 posts and a straightforward door and frame combo with a latch. Next you will have to glue the chicken wire round the fringe of the coop, steadily from one side of the door opening.
Make sure you're nailing the chicken wire as you go until you reach the other side of the door opening and nail it off at the door post. When siting the gate on its hinges make allowance for a slight slope. I know all the carpenters out there are cowering when I say that but from experience I have walked away from my coop in a rush and didn't remember to shut the coop gate and my chickens rambled away and paid a trip to my neighbor's yard. If you are going to allow for leaving your place for a bit, and you want to have peace of mind put a latch and a lock on the door and you're done.
A nice simple lean two cover with 3 sides and a sloped roof will be adequate to keep off worst of the weather and give defence against the sun and allow a spot for the chickens to lay their eggs with out harm. Make certain to supply some hay or straw for a nice laying bed. Now you had your fun building a chicken coop have fun raising your chickens and getting all the benefits too!
