By Kristie Ronalds

Jogging strollers are the choice of many parents who recognise the need for a healthy lifestyle. The days of just one type of stroller to choose from are long gone. Today the choice of type and model is really quite daunting. But who should get a jogging (or running) stroller, what are some of the benefits, what do you need to look for, where and how should you buy? If you want to keep fit and spend more time with your child, then this type of stroller could be for you so let's look at some of the features and benefits

Never use this type of stroller for small babies. The first things to think about are the weight of your child and whether they can sit on their own. Ensure your child is around six-months-old and seventy-five pounds in weight.

Always check how easy it is to fold the stroller up, particularly how simple it is to remove the wheels (required to get it in your car). This type of stroller is lightweight, but has a larger and longer triangular base than average. The wheels are larger as well which lends them to providing a more comfortable ride for the child. The tyres tend to be between 12 and 20 inches with the largest typically at the front. The front wheel should be lockable but swivel for more manoeuvrability.

Always look out for the colour and design you like the best as manufacturers now strive to give you want you want fashion wise. They will also include such things as mp3 players and odometers so you can keep track of how well you are doing!

You should always check the weather proofing of the models you look at, the turn radius of the wheel, whether the seat reclines, a safety tether is included in case the brake fails, the padding, a 5-point safety harness is supplied and perhaps whether if there is an adapter available for use with popular car seats. Also look for the amount of storage that comes with the stroller. Parents should also check the height of the handle and if it can be adjusted to suit different people.

Jogging strollers and can be found from $150 to over $500 and some of the more popular makes include Joovy, Schwinn and Jeep. If buying this type of stroller, visit a store to view and try out the models with your child. You can of course buy from the store as this may be easier if you have problems later, but it may well be cheaper to go to an established online store.

Naturally, you will get the most benefit from your stroller if you get the right one. This means doing your research, trying out the models and not wasting your money on features you may never use. Jogging strollers are a fantastic way to keep fit and healthy and will provide you with no excuse not to be so!
