Memory Foam Pillow: Catch Some Rest

By Davids Giacomo

Having a bad night's sleep because you have a pillow that doesn't suit you just sounds like a terrible idea, so if you haven't already, consider purchasing a memory foam pillow and kiss those grumpy mornings goodbye. The first time you try one you'll understand exactly what I'm talking about.

Just step back and think for a second - how much of your time do you spend sleeping? In the end, you'll log more than a third of your life knocked out on your back, wishing that you had something other than a lumpy pillow to support your sensitive head and neck.

So now that I have you interested, are you wondering exactly what memory foam is anyway, that it could make such a difference if your pillow was made out of it? Essentially, the foam is a specialized puffed up polymer that is specifically designed to be dense and viscous, and soften when put into contact with your body heat.

The foam is created in a special process where during its formation, it is infused with gases that initiate a chemical reaction that gives the foam its particular properties. This process was initially very expensive, but has gone down over the years, allowing memory foam products to be available more to the average consumer.

So what the 'memory' in memory foam means is that the pillow will always return to its original shape. You can sleep on it, beat it up, smash it in a closet, and it will remember how it was manufactured and return to that shape. So it doesn't remember how to mold to you, it just remembers itself.

For a little bit of quick history, the idea for memory foam came all the way back in 1966, when NASA opened a contract for a company to design a material that would be safer during spacecraft travel. Imagine how far that concept has come to get to where it is now! From a space shuttle all the way to your bedroom ? quite fascinating.

There are memory foam pillows available at all sorts of stores in the housing or bedding departments, and you can also buy them online and have them shipped to your house. Prices can range from quite reasonable to very expensive, depending on the quality of the material and the brand involved, so take notes before purchasing.

Once you've decided that you want a memory foam pillow, do a little bit of research and find out what places close to you sell them so you can try one out, or trust your instincts and see if you can find the right one online. Sweet dreams!
