Gout Cure For Improved Health

By Len Dinola

An episode of painfully swollen joints is also called gout. It is a common arthritis, referred to as gouty arthritis. It affects any joint in the body, but the big toes are the common targets of gout and its attacks are fast and very sore. Swelling and redness are commonly felt in the affected areas too.

Gout is the result of the development of urate crystals caused from purine breakdown. Uric acid is a kind of bodily waste that is eliminated by the kidneys. If not properly removed, the uric acid can build up and reach high levels especially if the kidneys are not able to remove excess uric acid.

Men over forty have greater risks of developing gout than other men and women, who may also have gout. There is an increase in risk after menopause for women experiencing gout. Since it is also genetic in nature, if it is a typical condition in the family, then there is a chance that you could get it.

Some factors that can make you more prone gout are a high meat/high alcohol diet, or a medical condition such as diabetes. Eating foods with high levels of purines, like shellfish, caviar, sardines, and anchovies, can make you susceptible to gout.

Symptoms vary between individuals; therefore, if you have gout, you should consult your doctor. Any of these symptoms are a sure sign that you have uric acid and urate crystals present in your system. High uric acid content in the body can create urate crystals, which develop into kidney stones.

Redness, inflammation and stiffness of the joints are all gout symptoms. The big toe is a common area to have an initial gout attack, but other joints can be affected as well. The severe pain could be made unbearable by even just the pressure of bed sheets. Meanwhile, a considerable number of gout cases get better after several days, despite not being treated, and do not reappear for months or even years.

Gout cures include natural and prescription medicines and the first thing is to visit your doctor. If you are already suffering from gout, make sure to take care of your joints and know the possible gout cures.

Most common treatments for gout include the administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDS like ibuprofen, indomethacin and naproxen. However, aspirin is not used because it could increase uric acid retention. These medications aren't very effective, and can have serious side effects.

People who are suffering from especially intense episodes of gout might be prescribed corticosteroids. Allopurinol, probenecid, and colchicine get used to help ease gout and lower the chance of having a recurrence.

There are many herbs and over the counter pain medications that help minimize the pain caused by gout.
