What to Buy for a Puppy: 101

By Dirk Gruenberg

Bringing home a new puppy is one of the best moments of one's life. I think most dog lovers would certainly agree with me on this one. And this joy can be intensified by planning ahead a little bit.

In order to ensure a smooth introduction to the home, there are a few things you will need to buy for your puppy in advance.

A new puppy will need a safe and secure place to sleep and placing a ticking clock near their bed will calm them when they are in their bed because it is like their mothers heartbeat.

Then, of course, you will need to buy some toys. They do not need to be expensive or fancy, just get something that your puppy will enjoy playing with or something that he will be allowed to chew on.

Speaking of the chewing toys, do not underestimate their importance. Here is the reason why that would be a bad idea: Your puppy is a dog and he is genetically designed to chew. Hence, he will and it is up to you to decide whether you want him to chew your shoes or a toy.

Of course, your puppy will also need to eat and to drink. So food and drinking dishes will be needed. Just get one of each. They do not need to be fancy, but practical. Also get some puppy dog food and milk.

Furthermore, you will want to take your dog for walks, so you will inevitably need both a collar and a leash. Once you have those you can gradually start your dog training.

If you are going to crate train your pup, then you will need an appropriate sized crate for this purpose. Depending on the climate your puppy may need a dog coat to keep them warm.

One of the most important things one needs for a new puppy is love and attention. If you give a puppy the attention and training they need then they will repay you with unconditional love tenfold.
