Know Your Shutters

Shutters are primarily used for privacy reasons and to control sunlight, but used properly it can also beautify a house. There are many types of shutters with different operating mechanisms that buyers can choose from depending on their needs and preferences. Regardless of your choice, you will find an immediate change of appearance for the better with the shutters adding charm and a hint of sophistication. Remember, shutters can be installed on both the inside and outside of the home. Whichever it is, there will be a marked improvement in appearance.

You have the option to install 2.5 inch louver shutters or the 3.5 inchers, depending on the style that will go well with your house or office. The shutters can be operated by either the divider rail or split pull bar option. With this, you would be able to operate the shutters from the top or bottom. You can enhance the look of the louver as well as get more protection by adding palladium tops like the radius or sunburst design.

For the inside of the home, plantation shutters are a favorite choice. Plantation shutters are very charming and are very good at keeping out the sun which of course means that you are able to maintain your privacy. Then for the outside of the home, you will often see simple shutters added to each side of the window to help frame and create a beautiful focal point. Shutters are made of wood, vinyl, plastic, and various metals and there is also a wide selection of colors, so finding one that will fit the style of the room and at the same time serve its intended function is not that difficult.

Shutters are multipurpose purpose devices - it can be made part of a design scheme, or block out the sun and minimize its harmful effects on furnishings and provide the necessary privacy to the interior of the house or building. It also serves as protection against bad weather, and shields the windows and doors from the onslaught of flying objects and storm water during storms. Worthy of note is the hurricane shutters that are specially made to provide protection against very strong winds during storms and harsh weather.

There is the automatic roll-down shutters made either of metal or PVC and are pre-installed. They can be kept in place ready to be rolled down on a set of tracks by turning on a switch to offer protection against hurricane assault. Accordion shutters that too are pre-installed offer the same degree of protection against hurricane forces. Used in a box on the side of a window or door, these shutters are simply pulled out and then locked into place. Bahama shutters are light duty types and are therefore not adequate as a storm stopper. It functions at its best when used to control the entry of sunlight.
